Inhoud van de sessie
Tijdens de fysieke bijeenkomst krijg je de kans om vragen te stellen en ervaringen uit te wisselen met onze onderzoekers, maar ook met andere gemeenten en stakeholders die met vergelijkbare uitdagingen te maken hebben. Een panel met vertegenwoordigers van gemeenten en aanverwante organisaties deelt praktijkervaringen en inzichten op het gebied van menselijk gedrag, sociale innovatie en burgerparticipatie binnen de energietransitie.

Daarnaast kun je deelnemen aan korte werksessies over:

• Het ontwikkelen van een strategie om je doelgroep beter in kaart te brengen en te begrijpen (bijvoorbeeld via onderzoek naar waarden en drijfveren binnen jouw gemeente of gebied);

• Het opstellen van gerichte communicatiestrategieën voor verschillende groepen bewoners;

• Het vertalen van deze strategieën naar implementatie;

• Het reflecteren op kansen en uitdagingen in je eigen context, en het uitwisselen van ervaringen met professionals die tegen vergelijkbare vraagstukken aanlopen.

Na afloop van deze gratis korte cursus kun je:

• Beter begrijpen hoe bewoners beslissingen nemen en hoe je markt- en institutionele barrières (zoals binnen VvE’s) kunt overwinnen bij investeringen in energiebesparing en schone energie, met specifieke aandacht voor Nederlandse huiseigenaren en sociale huurders;

• Waardeoriëntaties van verschillende groepen inwoners (waaronder mensen met een migratieachtergrond) herkennen en benutten om betrokkenheid te vergroten;

• De voor- en nadelen afwegen van generieke versus gepersonaliseerde communicatie bij het stimuleren van energie-investeringen;

• Gerichte interventies ontwikkelen die rekening houden met verschillen in gedrag tussen huishoudens;

• Inschatten hoe machine learning kan helpen bij het voorspellen van huishoudprofielen en het verbeteren van participatiestrategieën;

• Inzicht krijgen in organisaties en samenwerkingsvormen die collectieve besluitvorming kunnen ondersteunen en versnellen.

Doel van de cursus
Deze korte cursus helpt professionals om verder te kijken dan technisch goede, maar in de praktijk weinig effectieve renovatieaanpakken. Je krijgt inzichten in gedrag, instituties en implementatie die nodig zijn om schaalbare en mensgerichte renovatiestrategieën te ontwikkelen en toe te passen.

De cursus vertaalt actuele wetenschappelijke inzichten naar praktische handvatten voor besluitvorming. Zo krijg je beter zicht op waarom renovaties soms stagneren en hoe je effectiever kunt ingrijpen. Daarbij ligt de focus op het overbruggen van de kloof tussen beleidsambities en uitvoering in de praktijk, met aandacht voor factoren zoals gedragsverschillen, kosten, en betaalbaarheid.

Het programma ondersteunt je bij het ontwikkelen van strategieën die niet alleen technisch haalbaar zijn, maar ook aansluiten bij gedrag, institutionele context en uitvoerbaarheid.

De cursus draagt kortom bij aan het versnellen van de energietransitie in de gebouwde omgeving door de focus te verleggen van alleen gebouwen naar de mensen die erin wonen.

Contents of the session

During the in-person event, you'll have the chance to ask questions and share your experiences with our researchers as well as other municipalities and stakeholders with similar challenges. A panel of guests from municipalities and related organisations will share their practical experiences and insights on human interaction, social innovation and public participation in energy transition. 

In addition, there will be an opportunity to engage in short workshops on: 

• Creating a strategy to identify and better define your target group (how do you survey them to discover their value-orientations, etc.) within your municipality or area 

• Develop a targeted communication strategy for the different citizen groups within your area 

• Discuss how to implement your strategy 

• Reflect on opportunities and challenges in your context and network with peers who experience similar challenges.
  
  

By the end of this free, short course, you will be able to... 

• Understand residents' decision-making processes and overcome market and institutional barriers (including VvE’s) to energy-efficient retrofits and clean energy investments, particularly for Dutch homeowners and social housing tenants. 

• Identify citizen value orientations (including those from migrant backgrounds) to improve engagement in the energy transition. 

• Evaluate the pros and cons of one-size-fits-all versus personalised communication to encourage energy investments. 

• Develop tailored interventions that account for behavioural diversity across households. 

• Assess the potential of machine learning to predict household personas and enhance engagement strategies. 

• Learn about agencies that can help streamline collective decision-making. 

Goal of the course

The goal of this short course is to enable professionals to move beyond technically sound but socially ineffective renovation approaches, by equipping them with the behavioural, institutional, and implementation insights needed to design and deliver scalable, human-centred renovation strategies.  

The module aims to translate state-of-the-art research into practical decision-making frameworks that help municipalities, housing providers, and practitioners understand why renovation uptake stalls and how to intervene more effectively. It focuses on bridging the gap between policy ambition and real-world implementation by addressing the individual and heterogeneous determinants of renovation uptake and citizen engagement (e.g., behavioural heterogeneity, transaction costs, affordability).      

This way, the programme seeks to support participants in developing context-sensitive strategies that are not only technically feasible, but also behaviourally viable, institutionally grounded, and operationally implementable.  

Ultimately, the module contributes to accelerating the energy transition in the built environment by shifting professional practice from a focus on buildings alone to a focus on the people living in these buildings.
